WHAT'S NEW
Gallery on Sanibel Island

The next time you’re in the neighborhood of Sanibel Island, Fla., stop by Sanibel One Source Realty, where more than 20 of Alan’s pieces are now displayed.

“The photographs I’ve chosen focus on the Sanibel area,” Alan explains. “But many of my most popular images from other parts of Florida are exhibited, as well.”

Certainly one of the most unique displays is the “The Great Wall of Florida,” a 9x7.5-foot installation consisting of 184 6x9-inch pieces, which was unveiled at the Sanibel location in February. You can also view the “Great Wall” at Alan’s Key West gallery, 1210 Duval Street.

Alan’s photographs are available to view or order at ERA One Source Realty on Sanibel seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the ERA office at (239) 472-5478.

AROUND THE WORLD
Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas

Speaking of travel, how about a trip to St. Thomas, USVI, the newest location of Alan’s photographs. The Ritz-Carlton there recently installed nine of Alan’s island-themed images as part of a $40-million renovation to expand and enhance the resort’s luxurious accommodations and amenities.

Alan’s photographs were chosen for their ability to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The nine 4x5-feet images were installed in the Club Level Lounge and the Spa Conservatory, two major areas of renovation.

“We try to create an environment that’s peaceful and indicative of the tropics, hence the art,” said Jenny Highlander, Public Relations Manager for The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas.

The newly-remodeled accommodations feature décor inspired by the Caribbean sand and sea. As a photographer who has spent most of his career shooting Florida’s natural beauty, secluded beaches, untouched landscapes and wildlife, Alan was the ideal candidate for images to match this theme. The majority of the photos chosen for the installation were sunsets, skies and sea captured by Alan in various tropical locations.

HONORS AND AWARDS
American Advertising Federation Recognition

Alan’s artwork was recently honored by the American Advertising Federation – Tallahassee Chapter with a Local Silver ADDY Award.

The entry, titled “An Evening at the Museum,” was an invitation to an exhibit and personal appearance by Alan at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art last March. The invitation was designed and submitted by VISIT FLORIDA. Alan’s photo of a flamingo at rest, titled “Night Bloom,” was featured on the cover.

The ADDY Awards program is the world's largest advertising competition with more than 60,000 entries annually. The awards include three rigorous levels of judging: local, regional, and national. Winning an ADDY at each level qualifies the work to progress to the next higher level.

Local winners were announced at an awards gala on March 8 in Tallahassee sponsored by the Greater Tallahassee Advertising Federation.

MEDIA SPOTLIGHT
HealthCare Design Magazine Feature

A profile of Alan is now appearing in the March 2008 issue of HealthCare Design magazine. Titled “Naturally Inspired,” the two-page spread showcases five of Alan’s most popular images and gives readers insight into the inspiration for his artwork.

HealthCare Design is a magazine for architects, designers, administrators, facility managers, consultants, and key members of the construction community who are responsible for designing, building and renovating healthcare buildings. The article about Alan is featured in “The Art Corner,” a department specifically for artists whose work has appeared in healthcare facilities.

Alan is the featured artist at Baptist Health South Florida Homestead Hospital, a 388,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that opened in May 2007 and Florida Hospital East Orlando. His work also appears at two Steinway Child and Family Services (SCFS) mental health clinics in New York.

“It is most rewarding to know my art provides comfort for patients and their families in times of need, as well as for visitors and staff,” Alan says in the article.

HealthCare Design is not available on newsstands, but the entire article can be viewed online here or at www.alanmaltz.com under Press.
