We have all experienced a rare moment in time — the transition from the past one thousand years into the third millennium. To commemorate this significant event in history, renowned fine art photographer Alan S. Maltz has forever recorded the manifestation of this moment in a masterful series of works, capturing the last sunrise & sunset of 1999 and the first sunrise & sunset of 2000.

An Artist’s Perspective
This body of work consists of four symbolic moments: DEPARTURE, REFLECTING, NEW BEGINNINGS and THE PROMISE.

“My immediate goal was to record the last breath of the past 1000 years and the first breath of the next. I did not want this significant point in time to pass without preserving the essence of the moment. I was driven as an artist and photographer to do so. My intention was not just to capture four dramatic images, but to cause reflection and inspire positive thinking. I believe our thoughts guide our destiny. My ultimate goal is to help open a door of perceptions that leads the viewer to see the world with new eyes.” — Alan S. Maltz
